I was very moved by a documentary from RTHK, a story about a mobile hawker couple. Auntie Gun age 83 has been selling fruit for 70 years. She met her husband Uncle Chow when he was working at a cooked food stall on Stanley street where her mobile stall was. Uncle is suffering from dementia and has not been able to help her much. The only two things he can really remember are Auntie and the fruit stall. Her son is helping with the daily set up of the stall before he goes to work in the morning, and then a nearby building security guard helps her pack things up end of day. The old lady's only wish is to be granted a permanent hawker licence but the food and environmental department always declines her application. So sad, but Auntie will never give up!
